About the Author:
Robert J. Lemke and Karen K. Diedrich are partners in Living Rich, Inc. As professional speakers, authors and consultants, they simplify complex issues, provide practical approaches and deliver messages which motivate and entertain.

Bob Lemke is a senior executive with over 30 years of experience in manufacturing and service industries. He has notable accomplishments in business management, leading and developing organizations, and "building to last." Bob is a team player with a participative management style who subscribes to quality management principles and has a passion for excellence. (Some brave people might even call him a perfectionist.) Bob is well known for attaining profitable business results, building strong organizational cultures, and taking ownership of tough business decisions. Bob's versatility allows him to manage details at ground-level, or to lead and provide strategic direction "from 40,000 feet." He has gained credibility and respect from large organizations for making wise business and personnel decisions, and for communicating diligently. (He has even been seen carrying a soap box from one office to the next.) He takes pride in his ability to simplify complex issues, and to explain his thinking in plain, simple English (so that even HE can understand it, he says).

Bob's personal objectives are to be trustworthy and honorable, and to keep close ties to his roots. (He is, after all, just a farm boy from Kaukauna.) He takes pride in his family and his extended "tribe." The father of three daughters, Bob has "helped little people to become good big people" by sharing his values, communicating his expectations, and making principle-centered decisions. (Just ask any one of his girls about RRRT -- Respectful, Reliable, Responsible and Trustworthy.) Bob has taught his daughters to stand up for what they believe in, even if they stand alone.

And, on the rare occasion when a teenage daughter and her parents don't agree, Bob works hard to be "tough" on the issues and "easy" on the person.

In his spare time, Bob enjoys hunting, fishing and the typical "outdoorsman" stuff. (He is frequently seen at Fleet Farm and Gander Mountain, shopping for the best deal on anything mechanical or sportsman-related.)

Being one of nine children, Bob learned quickly that the best memories are made in moments, not events. And the best moments are re-lived at family gatherings for years to come. (He also learned not to leave a piece of pie on the table, unattended.)

Bob enjoys the simple pleasures of life and the "good kind of tired" which comes from a day of hard work at his cabin. He takes pride in his ability to coach and mentor people; and he hopes to help others succeed in concrete ways and with measurable results.

Karen Diedrich is an accomplished speaker, published author and respected manager. She has over 15 years of practical experience in the fields of Human Resource Management, Marketing and Organizational Development. She is especially skilled in communications -- and is known equally well for speaking eloquently and listening quietly, with empathy. As a trainer, Karen combines humor and a safe environment with serious material, in order to achieve high impact and retention. As a writer, she uses her strong command of the written word to convey messages clearly and simply. (Even her fourth-grade teacher said she would write novels, one day.)

A tough-minded yet gentle manager, Karen is respected for building pockets of excellence within organizations. Her desire to provide outstanding service is enhanced by her ability to "connect" with customers and develop strong relationships. She has the courage to do the right thing, and she has gained credibility by doing what she says she will do, when she says she will do it. Karen takes commitments -- and most everything else -- very seriously (yet she frequently expresses the corny sense of humor she inherited from her dad.) Her versatility, practicality and good judgement have earned her a high-level management position in a heavy manufacturing industry. And she is grateful for continuous opportunities to provide "high touch" help in this "high-tech" world.

Karen's personal objective is to use her diverse abilities to help other people maximize their potential. She believes the LIVING RICH( business is a means of achieving that mission, (and credits her mother as her first "backer.")

Sensitivity and spirituality are the cornerstones of Karen's deep, meaningful relationships. As the mother of two young daughters, Karen believes the best thing she can do for them is to enhance their self-esteem and build their personal power, so that they can live according to their convictions. (Of course, there are times when just a full night's sleep would do, too.)

In her spare time, Karen enjoys playing piano, attending theatre productions, and "connecting" with family and friends. (She's the one they call "Silly Aunt Karen.") She is also known to "shop until she drops" on occasion, and at least one retail store has sent her a "thank you" note for her good business.

Karen takes great pride in her ability to live life fully and with passion -- to be dedicated and driven, yet dynamic, animated and caring. She hopes to help others live equally rich lives: to create the balance they desire, to achieve their personal and professional goals, and to find real meaning in the journey.

Be aware of the "I Quit Dip." Even dreams-come-true can seem like nightmares after you've lived them for a while. Suppose you finally landed a job with a company you've always wanted to work for. Or maybe you just got promoted and can now start working on the projects you've coveted. Or maybe you have finally taken the leap into entrepreneurship and started your own business. At first, you're likely to feel very excited and optimistic. You can't wait to dive in and start doing all the things you've eagerly anticipated. People are congratulating you and encouraging you. You feel confident because, after all, these things wouldn't be happening if you weren't worthy of the additional responsibilities or authority.

Shortly after you've gotten into the new routine, however, The "I Quit Dip" sets in. The perks of the new position have faded, and now you're left with challenging work, hard questions (because you don't know the answers yet) and bigger demands than you've ever had. It feels like chaos, and you're not sure if you're on foot or horseback. The "I Quit Dip" hits you like a punch in the ribs, and it haunts you with a vengeance: "Why did I ever think I wanted to do this? What have I done? Maybe I'm in over my head." You know you've hit the bottom of the "I Quit Dip" when you're thinking, "Maybe I should get out of here."

Whenever you make a major change in your job (or any other aspect of your life), you're likely to find that, after a short time, your excitement and confidence will give way to disillusionment and uncertainty. This dip is a very predictable step in the process. However, you can rest assured that, after a brief period in the dip, you will recover. You'll find that the tasks and your emotions reach a normal state of equilibrium again. Your confidence returns and you start to think that this is going to be okay, after all. Recognize that the "I Quit Dip" is a temporary situation, and take heart. Many others have survived this, and you will too.
