The Drug Free Home is a combination CD-ROM program and book designed to provide a non-confrontational communication tool for parents to discuss drugs and alcohol with their children. The book is an educational piece with everything from "What Leads to Drug Use", to "What to Teach Your Children about Drugs", to "Where We Stand Today". The book is "library piece" that you will use today >and as a reference in the years to come. The interactive CD-ROM format is broken down into 3 different Sections. The School Yard (ages 10 and under) where younger children learn to make appropriate choices when faced with peer pressure. The Mall (ages 11-14) where children can "go" to different stores within a mall setting with their friends and discuss issues such as managing stress, peer pressure, and dealing with friends that are using drugs. The last section is Biographies (ages 15 and over) where young adults learn about consequences of drug use. Each area of the CD-ROM references the section in the book that corresponds to that particular subject.

From the Publisher:
The use of drugs by Americas youth is horrifying; heroin use has increased by 500% since 1992, marijuana by 275%, the abuse of inhalants has reached epidemic proportions by some estimates! Despite billions of dollars spent on school and community based programs the drug problem remains one of Americas most chronic problems. The solution say most experts in the field is that drug abuse prevention must begin in the home. That is why we spent over two years developing The Drug Free Home. The Drug Free Home program was designed to initiate and support non-confrontational conversation between children and their parents, grandparents/guardians. Through the utilization of a simple yet interactive CD/Rom where parents/grandparents can familiarize themselves with the related issues confronting young people in their day to day lives. The CD is supported by a comprehensive reference book, Parents Guide to a Drug Free Home as well as a web page for ongoing communication and information. After the children review the CD/Rom there is a basis for non-confrontational communication. So for those parents, grandparents/guardians who want to talk to their kids about drugs and alcohol The Drug Free Home was developed for you.
