With his new book, Leadership Magic, author and entrepreneur Ben Valore-Caplan offers his readers a uniquely practical guide to developing and refining the skills, practices, and habits of mind and heart necessary to challenge and invite people to perform at their best. With self-assessment tools and discussion questions included at the end of each section, this book challenges readers to see leadership as a process of bringing out the best in themselves and others, and provides them with the tools to undertake that process. Leadership Magic focuses on eight vital leadership practices--aligning missions, teaching leadership, building relationships, leveraging diversity, coaching communication, negotiating conflict, creating and guiding rituals, and taking bold risks--and provides leaders with the tools they need to nurture and refine these practices in their lives and their work, so that they can make the most effective business and personal decisions.

Leadership Magic grew out of author Ben Valore-Capalan's experiences as a leader of non-profit and for-profit organizations in the 1990s--an era when all of the rules about working and leading changed. Valore-Caplan has not only led but founded several organizations, most notably, Denver Summerbridge, a non-profit program Valore-Caplan started in 1993. He created productive partnerships with corproations, foundations, public and private schools and city government agencies to raise over $1 million to provide motivated Denver youth with year-round, tuition free educational opportunities. During Valore-Caplan's tenure, Denver Summerbridge grew into one of the strongest programs of its kind in the country, and attracted the attention and support of local, state, and national business community, and political leaders. While his practical experience is his strongest asset, Valore-Caplan's work has also benefited from his studies of cultural anthropology and education at Brown University (B.A. 1992) and of business through the Daniles College of Business at the University of Denver (M.B.A. 1999).
