Synopsis
Memories of more than 200 all-time Cleveland Indian favorites from Bobby Avila to Jim Thome who played for Cleveland teams since 1901, when Clevelands professional baseball franchise began as a charter member of the American League, are profiled in this latest book by sportswriter/sports historian Russell Schneider.
A collection of stories and anecdotes about players, managers and games, that entertained and have been cherished by fans over the years, beginning April 24, 1901, when Cleveland lost to Chicago, 8-2, in the American Leagues first game, and continues into the Indians 100th season in 2000.

About the Author
Tribe Memories, the first century, was written by sports reporter-historian Russell Schneider, whose byline appeared in the (Cleveland) Plain Dealer for 32 years.
Schneider covered the Indians on a daily basis for 14 years, from 1964-77, and continued to report their successes and failures as a columnist and investigative reporter through 1993.
A free lance writer since leaving the newspaper, Schneider has authored eight sports books, including the Cleveland Indians Encyclopedia, published by Temple University Press in 1995, and the Boys of the Summer of 48 by Sagamore Publishing Co. in 1998, as well as books on Frank Robinson, Lou Boudreau, the 1995 and 1996 Indians, and the 1999 Cleveland Browns of the National Football League.
A Marine Corps veteran, Schneider also was a catcher in the Indians minor league system in 1949, and is a graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Russell Schneider has written a number of books on his favorite team, the Cleveland Indians, soon to be the Guardians. From 1901, when the American League and these memories started for him, through the end of the Glory Years of the late 1990s, this is a wonderful collection of memories. Has a beautiful color illustrated front cover by Tom Denny, and Denny also did the illustrations on the rear cover of Indians in the Hall of Fame as well as the ones throughout the book. The upper outer edge of the front cover (about 1/2 inch vertically and 3/4 of an inch horizontially) is mangled along with the first few pages where the damage decreases at each page until it disappears on page nine. On the bottom outer edge of the pages it appears someone has spilled a cup of coffee near the back cover about five inches in length horizonally and a maximum vertical length of about 1/2 of an inch. 217 pages, including an index and a tribe timeline.
