The search begins in New York with an attempt to find a missing cousin, Fritzi Burger, the beautiful Olympic ice skating champion who disappeared at the onset of the war. It ends in Vienna in the wake of the Nazi genocide.

Carol Bergman is a New York journalist who struggled for many years to break through her mother's silence in order to write this book. It is one of the only nonfiction Holocaust books written by a child of Austrian survivors.

About the Author:

Carol Bergman's articles, essays, memoirs and interviews have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, The Times (of London), Newsday, German Life, Family Circle and Cosmopolitan. She is the author of two film biographies (Mae West, Sidney Poitier) and ghosted Captain Kangaroo's autobiography, "Growing Up Happy." She teaches nonfiction writing at New York University and Gotham Writer's Workshop.
