From the Author

I’d like to mention how I met Wade Keller. About a year ago, maybe a little longer, over at the Marco Inn, I was asked to make a little talk about why I moved to Goodland and Marco Island. It was for the Historical Society. There were four speakers, and I was the last one. Of course, I just told the story of why I moved over here and how. After it was all over, Wade stepped up and introduced himself to me, and said he would like to do my autobiography. And I said, "You mean write a book?" And he said, "Ya!" I said, "I don’t know man, why would you want to do that?" He said, "Well, I think it’s a story here. People will read your story and at times they will laugh and at times they will cry. That’s a powerful story." Y’know, I’ve been asked by people before why I didn’t write a book and I always told them, "I can’t write. I can’t hardly read, much less write. There’s no way I could do that!" And they’d say, "Well, get somebody to write it for ya!" So Wade stepped up and he said he’d like to do that. He said, "You just tell it to me, I’ll write it." So that’s what we did. And this is it and I hope you like it. I want to thank him very much for that. I also want to thank Wade’s wife, Sue, for taking some pictures and being so supportive in the whole thing here. I’d also like to thank you, reading this book right now. I just hope you like it and enjoy this book.
