About the Author:

Maria Bird-West Wheeler has spent greater than twenty-five years working in the fields of Psychology and Special Education, with an emphasis on Neurobehavioral Disorders, Applied Behavior Analysis, and Specific Learning Disabilities. Maria currently works as a private consultant providing technical assistance, behavioral services, educational guidance and staff development to several school districts on a continuous weekly or monthly basis and to schools and families on an individual basis through technical assistance. She also travels internationally providing training at seminars, conferences, and workshops. Maria provides training and guidance in the thorough analysis and development of behavior intervention plans. She is available for public speaking, training seminars, staff development and on- or off-site technical assistance. Maria has an outstanding reputation as an international speaker and consultant for topics related to behavior and learning in chil! dren, adolescents and adults.

Maria holds a Master's Degree with training and extensive experience in Psychology and Special Education including an emphasis on Applied Behavior Analysis. She has held positions in Florida and Texas as a special education classroom teacher for 10+ years; behavior specialist; consultant for emotional disturbance and behavior disorders; interim school administrator; and director of behavioral services for residential treatment centers serving adults and children with neurobehavioral disorders and developmental disabilities. In addition, she has highly successful experience developing and refining programs, policies and procedures for businesses; developing and implementing continuous quality improvement systems; interagency coordination; facilitation of problem-solving plus conflict resolution for individuals and groups; and extensive public speaking. She has Texas teacher certificates/endorsements in Serious Emotional Disturbance and Autism, Special Education, and Psycholo! gy. She received her degrees in Psychology and Special Education while in Florida.
