Reviews

Raymond describes the typical parent's love-hate relationship with the Internet, which is sometimes viewed as a valuable resource and sometimes as a mindless diversion. Little research has been done on the impact of the Internet on children's development, but Raymond offers findings from what research is available, including the value of the Internet in boosting academic performance, improving communication skills, and reducing the technology gap between girls and boys. She covers the basics by providing brief background information on the Internet and how to navigate the Web, send e-mail, and build Web pages. Using her experiences in exploring the Internet with her children and advice from educators and child psychologists, she also suggests projects that parents and children can do together on this new and evolving medium. Parents need not be techno-savvy to use and enjoy this imaginative, valuable resource. Vanessa Bush
