Barry Freeman was born and raised in southern Arizona. His maternal grandfather, Louis Gilson, homesteaded a small ranch at the confluence of the Gila and San Pedro Rivers near the small town of Kelvin. A 1947 graduate of Tucson High School, he attended the University of Arizona, obtaining a B.S. in Animal Husbandry and later an M.S. in Range Management. In between degrees, he enlisted in the U.S. Army's Infantry, later serving as an Artillery Officer in the Korean War. Since 1956, employers have included Oregon State University, the University of Arizona, American Cattle Company, and his own firm, American Ag International. Mr. Freeman has plied his trade (range management/livestock production) in Arizona, the Western United States, and 30 underdeveloped countries of the world. All of his endeavors were interesting, with a few being downright hazardous. Yet, as he says, "My strongest feelings and fondest memories are reserved for the times I spent with the cowboys and cowmen whom I have been priveliged to know!" Barry currently resides with Valerie, his wife for 45 years in Tucson.
