Rhode Island, 1990. A looming banking scandal is about to break wide open. At the center stands the scion of a powerful banking institution, heir to his father's fortune and position, but not to his values and principles. Luco Parisi's scheme plunders the institution his father worked a lifetime to build and threatens to bankrupt his father's legacy as well. With his deceit on the verge of being exposed, Luco sets into motion a carefully laid plan of evasion and escape, leaving behind a trail of financial devastation for thousands -- including local mob boss Tubby Bgnatore. Before Luco escapes, he uses the little time he has left to settle some old scores. But revenge works both ways and the mob, it turns out, is the least of his problems. Luco is about to learn the painful meaning of vengeance -- and retribution -- from an unexpected adversary.

From the Publisher:
The underlying concept of The Aberration springs from the very real banking crisis that shook the State of Rhode Island in 1990, culminating in the closing of every bank and credit union in the state on New Year’s Day of 1991. To this day, thousands of Rhode Islanders have yet to regain total access to their deposits. Hundreds of others lost money big-time, bringing some to financial ruin.

As a lifelong Rhode Island resident and former business owner whose fortunes were directly affected by the infamous crisis, Mr. Giannini draws upon his personal experiences and insights to set the stage for a compelling tale of revenge, greed, lust and morality. With his critical eye for detail, he creates an easily recognizable landscape for a story that has at its core the eternal moral conflicts that afflict us all.

While Mr. Giannini’s telling of it is presented in the form of fiction and is tempered by his wry sense of humor, it is a story that will resonate in every region of the country, where banking irregularities are being disclosed almost on a daily basis. It is a story, therefore, that we felt needed to be told.

From the Author:
As a business owner whose fortunes were catastrophically impacted by Rhode Island’s infamous banking scandal, my personal experiences set the stage for this tale of revenge, greed and betrayal. The financial trauma to which I was subjected -- and from which I will never completely recover -- provided the insights by which I was able to draw upon the subtle, and not so subtle, political and cultural nuances of a state where deals are still made in smoky back rooms, wiseguys still throw their weight around, and the past never really dies.

In the beginning, seething with vindictiveness, I focused on creating a documentary that would exact revenge against those whose complicity had caused the failure of the banks and had brought so much havoc upon so many innocent bystanders.

It was only when I was able to step back and view what had taken place from a safe, emotional distance, that the concept of fictionalizing the events occurred to me. To my grateful relief, as my work progressed, the very writing of The Aberration proved to be a catharsis, freeing me from the bitterness that had threatened, for a time, to consume me.

Not only is my story factually based upon those events of the early 1990s, my personal embroilment in them also formed the gene pool for some of my characters. However, while the essence of the plot did, in fact, rise from the debris of the banking crisis, I have taken sufficient liberties with the operational details of the crisis that The Aberration must be termed pure fiction, with no pretense at being a reportorial exposition.
