About the Author

Cris Kohl, according to Ty Sawyer, editor of Skin Diver Magazine, is (quote) widely recognized as the world's preeminent Great Lakes wreck guru....his comprehensive knowledge of this part of the world is nothing short of amazing....(unquote) A prize-winning land and underwater photographer, Cris Kohl has been a scuba diver for over 30 years and has explored shipwrecks in several oceans and all of the Great Lakes. His specialty training includes Full Cave diving certification and he has English degrees and a Master's degree in History. Cris has written more than 250 magazine and newsletter articles, his work being published in newspapers like the Washington Post and the Toronto Globe and Mail, and in magazines such as Skin Diver, Sport Diver, Scuba Diving, Wreck Diving, Immersed, Discover Diving, Diver, and Cottage Life, and maritime journals such as Inland Seas. Cris has taken part in many Great Lakes shipwreck searches, discoveries, identifications, and surveys. His numerous television appearances include being on the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, and Chicago's CBS-2. A past president of the Underwater Archaeological Society of Chicago, he has written 11 books about Great Lakes shipwrecks. He is the 2008 recipient of the Our World-Underwater Lifetime Achievement Award.
