Margit Esser Porter's first book, Hope Is Contagious, won rave reviews not only from doctors and the media but also from thousands of women diagnosed with breast cancer. This second volume addresses the difficult period after initial treatment, a time when you need understanding, encouragement, and practical advice from women who have experienced the disease first hand. That's when you need hope--and Hope Lives!
Compiled from hundreds of questionnaires received from all across the country, and including a foreword by noted oncologist Dr. Annette Furst of Boston's Faulkner Breast Centre, Hope Lives! offers wisdom, hope, and inspiration from those who have been there. This single volume contains advice from celebrities and non-celebrities alike, all of them living with breast cancer. Covering issues from posttraumatic stress to fatigue, menopause, weight gain, lymphedema, and recurrence--and complete with a resource section and illustrations of suggested yoga postures--Hope Lives! provides the support you need to see you through all those days and years to come.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October of 1995. While undergoing treatment I circulated a questionnaire across the country, collecting advice, support, and inspiration from other women with breast cancer. Their responses served not only to get me through my treatment, but also to become volume one of what I affectionately call a 6 x 6-inch paperback support group. Others call it Hope Is Contagious: The Breast Cancer Treatment Survival Handbook. Since the first publication of Hope Is Contagious, I have met and spoken with thousands of women of all ages and with all stages of breast cancer. They share a strong desire to help others even while in the midst of their own crises. And they have been a continued source of both inspiration and practical advice as I've learned to deal with the new issues faced by every woman who has finished initial treatment and continues to live with breast cancer.
It's been my experience that no one better understands the needs and concerns of a woman with breast cancer better than another woman with breast cancer. This book is my attempt to continue sharing that collective wisdom with others--and to show through these women's own words that Hope Lives!
Margit Esser Porter was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995 at the age of 34. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband and dog.
