Abandoned to poverty and the neglectful care of his maternal grandmother shortly after his birth in 1930, Robert O. Caulfield spent the first 10 years of his life running wild on the dangerous inner-city streets of Depression-era Roxbury, Massachusetts. he began drawing on those streets - literally, with chalk - at age 6. After serving in the Marines, he married at 21 and settled into a suburban lifestyle, eventually raising 5 children. Art was always his driving passion and, supporting himself with a "regular" job, he painted whenever possible, exhibiting his work, garnering awards and developing a reputation as one of America's finest painters through the years. Largely self-taught, his style has been hailed as emblematic of American Impressionism but is entirely his own. The 18 years that have passed since he opened the Caulfield Art Gallery in Woodstock, Vermont have found him becoming one of the most popular artists in the nation. Today his paintings hang in private and corporate collections the world over.
