Tamela Fleetwood was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1954. Four months later she was in Landstuhl, Germany. Her father was an attorney and later a judge for the U.S. Army. She spent half of her childhood in Germany and the other half in North Carolina, Georgia and Hawaii. As an Army brat she experienced the difference between military and civilian life as she moved between the two worlds. "There is a kind of 'color-blindness' which exists in a military brat's childhood. On the playground in Germany it did not matter who your father was or what color you were - we were all friends." Tamela has a passion for peace and harmony. Nellie Jelly and the Jelly Well is a story that was born of this passion. She hopes to bring light to the hardened hearts of this world through the children of this generation who are called to love one another, despite their many differences.
"It's a fantastic book." -- Kyle Poplin, editor Carolina Morning News
"The story teaches a valuable lesson to kids and is charmingly illustrated. The tale revolves around a cook named Nellie." -- Doug Wyatt, Savannah News Press
