Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D.
Dr. F. Batmanghelidj (Batman-ge-lij), American citizen, was born in Iran in 1931. He attended school in Scotland, and received his medical training at London University’s St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School. Upon completion of his studies, he had the privilege of being selected as a house doctor in his own medical school. Dr. Batmanghelidj practiced medicine in England before returning to Iran where he helped develop hospitals, and a family charity teaching medical center.
When revolution broke out in 1979, Dr. Batmanghelidj, as a member of a prominent family, was thrown in jail and was slated to be shot. While waiting to be "processed" as a political prisoner in Evin prison, he discovered the healing power of water.
One night, Dr. Batmanghelidj had to treat a fellow prisoner with crippling peptic ulcer pain. With no medications at his disposal, Dr. Batmanghelidj gave him two glasses of water. Within eight minutes, his pain disappeared. He was instructed to drink two glasses of water every three hours. He became absolutely pain-free for the four remaining months he was in prison. Without using any medication, he was cured. This discovery of the medicinal property of water at Evin saved the Doctor's life. The authorities now wanted to be associated with his discovery.
In 31 months of his imprisonment, Dr. Batmanghelidj treated over 3,000 peptic ulcer sufferers with water alone. He conducted extensive research into the medicinal effects of water. He discovered water could prevent, relieve and cure many painful, degenerative diseases. Evin prison proved an "ideal stress laboratory," and despite being offered an earlier release, he chose to stay an extra four months in prison to complete his research into the relationship of dehydration and bleeding peptic ulcer disease. The report of his findings was published as the editorial of the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology in June 1983. The New York Times Science section reported this discovery.
Upon his release in 1982, Dr. Batmanghelidj escaped from Iran and came to America. At "Foundation for the Simple in Medicine" he began research of the effect of chronic unintentional dehydration on the human body. His findings were published in their "Journal of Science in Medicine Simplified" in 1991 and 1992.
His research produced a paradigm shift in the basic science of medicine. As the guest lecturer of an international Cancer Conference, he explained that pain and the degenerative diseases, including cancers, are produced by dehydration in the human body. His article, "Pain: A Need for Paradigm Change," was published in the "Journal of Anticancer Research" in 1987.
For the first time in medical history, at the 3rd Interscience World Conference on Inflammation in 1989, Dr. Batmanghelidj explained that histamine is a neurotransmitter in charge of water regulation and drought-management programs of the body—the medical breakthrough people have been waiting for.
With his radio and TV interviews, Dr. Batmanghelidj is now promoting professional and public awareness of the healing power of water. His book, "Your Body Many Cries for Water," has helped millions of people.
He has written five books in English: "Your Body’s Many Cries for Water," which has been translated into many languages, "How to Deal with Back pain & Rheumatoid Joint Pain"; " ABC of Asthma, Allergies and Lupus"; "Water: for Health, for Healing, for Life" (published by Warner Books) and "Water Cures: Drugs Kill." He as four videotapes, "Cure Pain & Prevent Cancer"; "Dehydration & Cancer"; "Health Miracles in Water & Salt" and "How to Deal with Back Pain.". His most recent article, "Waiting to get Thirsty is to Die Prematurely and Painfully" is published in the Townsend Letters for Doctors and Patients in January, 2003.
