Synopsis
One of the most misunderstood religions in the 21st century, Islam has incorrectly been labeled an "evil religion," the "religion of terrorists," and a "threat to the free world." In a few short chapters, "Islam in a Nutshell" helps to dispel many of these misconceptions by explaining the religion as it is laid out in verses in its holy books.
Beginning with a description of Arabia in the 6th century, "Islam in a Nutshell" takes readers on a historical journey from the birth of Islam’s prophet Muhammed in the 7th century, through the spread of the religion and finally to contemporary differences in the way the Islam is practiced today.
Through short easy-to-read chapters, "Islam in a Nutshell" outlines the religion’s main tenets and discusses cultural and religious interpretations regarding the use of the veil, gender roles, jihad, jurisprudence and other issues. Also included in the 2nd edition of "Islam in a Nutshell" is a chapter on terrorism, a side-by-side look at the Koran and the Christian Bible and a short description of Islamic sects.

About the Author
Amanda Roraback is the author of the "Nutshell Notes" book series that includes "Afghanistan in a Nutshell," "Iraq in a Nutshell," (both LA Times Bestsellers), "Islam in a Nutshell," "Pakistan in a Nutshell" and "Israel-Palestine in a Nutshell."
Roraback has received a Bachelors and Masters degree in history and completed three years of work towards a PhD. degree in Soviet history at UCLA.
Amanda, who has traveled to more than 40 countries including Lithuania, China, Cuba and the Middle East, is also a public speaker on a number of international topics.
