Synopsis

"Two Trees." By Kevin Lee Luthier

A novel of love, written by a master violinmaker. (Book one in the Luthier's Diary Series)

Written to inspire, entertain and give hope to those that have the courage to dream. These refreshingly original books come from deep within the world of the Master Luthier (violinmaker) and contain the lives, loves and fantasies of those who play upon true master instruments. Especially suited for those deeply passionate about life and music, as well as those who wish to experience those feelings for the very first time.

"Two Trees" "It takes two trees to make a master violin, and it takes two hearts to fall in love."

Most people believe that the incredible world of the Master Luthier was lost over 250 years ago, and that their secrets can never be rediscovered. The Master Luthier was said to have lived in a mysterious world of his own, full of legends, fantasy and passionate intrigue. A world, serparate from our own, where even the trees have souls and anything is possible. It's hard to believe in fantasy and hold onto such dreams in our world today, and yet there are still those that believe. Even after two centuries, musicians still dream of what it would be like to visit a master violinmaker and order the instrument they truly need. An instrument made "just for them," with the ability to change their lives and inspire others.

Richard Gaspar is an arrogant, thirteen-year-old prodigy violinist, whose only dream is to perform in the spotlight and hear the deafening roar of the crowd as they rise to their feet. Richard's vain and pretentious world is shattered when elevenyear-old Michelle Ross stumbles into his life and teaches him how a true friend can change someone's life forever. The story of a boy and a girl innocently growing up together, playfully and romantically told by the only one who can...The Master Luthier.

While the books in the Luthier's Diary Series are passionate and exciting, the author has written them for readers of all ages. Critics have referred to "Two Trees" as "Very hot, yet clean and morally uplifting." "Entertaining; while having a spiritual Zen feel to it." "Men and women will both enjoy it immensely." Each book in the series is unique, with different stories and characters interacting with the Master Luthier and his world of music. While these are not 'how to' books on violin making and playing, they do include many of the lost secrets, along with many of the almost unbelievable legends, experiences and feelings of those who have played upon true master instruments.

"Two Trees" is the story of Richard Gaspar, who orders a 'very special' violin from the Master Luthier to further his career...and in the process he finds his heart.

About the Author

Kevin Lee was born in Renton, Washington, U.S.A. and the first few years of his life were spent playing among the evergreens and along the shores of Puget Sound.

It was during this time that his mother heard Jascha Heifetz play the violin for the very first time and after moving to Thousand Oaks, California, Kevin started learning to play his eighth-size violin at age six. The violin cost twenty-five dollars and he took his first lessons from his second grade school teacher, Patricia Woodson.

His family and childhood years cannot be considered 'normal' by anyone's stretch of the imagination and with it came many unique experiences that have helped him in the arts of violinmaking and writing.

He officially became recognized as a 'Master Luthier' and had the title appended to his name before the turn of the last century, when his 'original' instruments were appraised higher than any living maker in the history of the world.

The people who play upon his master instruments and those that appreciate his books simply refer to him as 'Luthier'. He now lives a life of dreams on a vineyard in Southern Utah with his beautiful wife, Sheryl, and their three children: Skyler, Tessa and Colter.

Chapter 1: Richard

The applause engulfed the concert hall and it surged to an almost deafening level when Richard Gaspar returned to the stage for his third, and final encore. 'Almost deafening' was the determining factor for Richard as he took his long, sweeping strides back across the glowing, hand-rubbed hardwood floor with his violin under his arm and his bow in his hand. Many great virtuosi had performed upon this stage over the past hundred and fifty years and this was not Richard Gaspar's first time. "No more than three encores tonight," Richard told himself. "More than three this evening would come across as arrogance. I must wait until the audience unanimously decides it and 'all' the critics say the right words." Richard Gaspar had plenty of arrogance, but his training and many years of performing in the public spotlight had enabled him to use it to obtain his goals, without tarnishing his image. "Someday it will be four encores, then five," he mused as he smiled and squinted his eyes against the glaring lights so he could see the vast, cheering crowd. Richard's smile grew larger as he briskly drew to a stop at center stage by the conductor, in front of all the other talented musicians that had accompanied him that evening. There he faced his admirers head-on in the middle of the spotlight and took his bows. He looked magnificent in his black, French-cut tails. A tall, distinguished gentleman of thirty-four with an obvious European pedigree, complete with olive skin and wavy, jet-black hair. His eyes were dark and captivating, while his sparkling white teeth could be seen from the back row. His smile came across as a mischievous grin to some in the audience, but to most, especially his loyal female admirers, it was daring and exciting. His entire image was striking and his features could be considered almost perfect, except for two large scars that ran across his left cheek. But the deep scars only seemed to give him an aura of danger and mystique; adding even more to the intrigue and his popularity with the women. Richard was exhilarated. He was in his element, standing in the blinding spotlight, bowing to the large, cheering crowd that filled the old, classic-style concert hall to capacity. He knew that some in the audience had paid very dearly to hear him perform tonight and he mouthed the words, "Thank you," for many different reasons as he lowered himself and closed his eyes. Richard took in a full, deep breath as he raised back up. He seemed to take in the applause along with the air he breathed. Then he paused just long enough to wink at the governor's enthralled, fourteen-year-old daughter sitting in the front row. She smiled back up at Richard with a blush, then she closed her eyes and fell back into her seat with a sigh. Richard knew the games to play and the fine lines to walk as a seasoned.....
