Kevin Lee was born in Renton, Washington, U.S.A. and the first few years of his life were spent playing among the evergreens and along the shores of Puget Sound in Federal Way.
It was during this time that his mother heard a great violinist play for the very first time and after moving to Thousand Oaks, California, Kevin startined learning to play his eighth-size violin at age six. The violin cost twenty-five dollars and he took his first lessons from his second grade school teacher.
His family and childhood cannot be considered "normal" by anyone's stretch of the imagination and with it came the many unique experiences that have helped him in the arts of violinmaking and writing.
He officially became recognized as a "Master Luthier" and had the title appended to his name before the turn of the last century, when his original violins were appraised higher than any living maker in history. Many simply refer to him as "Luthier" and any pronunciation (ancient, modern, French of English), is acceptable.
While the books are written in novel form and some liberties are taken, the Luthier's true life story is interwoven throughout the series.
He now lives his life of dreams in a Victorinan-style farmhouse on a vineyard in Southern Utah with his beautiful wife, Sheryl, and their three children: Skyler, Tessa and Colter.
A fun, delightful escape! Totally enjoyable to experience the life of the Luthier! Dream a little! -- Sheryl Lee, Publisher and Distributor, March 28, 2002
