Walda Woods attended Merrimack College in Massachusetts where she completed a course of study in Business Management. Her interest in business eventually led her to become a successful real estate broker in 1985. She has since climbed the corporate ladder to become Director of Sales for IDG World Expo in 1993. In 1995 she began her own consulting firm which offered sales planning and development services to a variety of businesses.
In September of 1996, life dealt her a most tragic blow--the loss of her husband and best friend, Tom. Tom, a healthy, athletic non-smoker loved life with a passion. Never sick a day in his forty-five years, he died suddenly from a massive heart attack during a neighborhood Labor Day cookout. The grief Walda experienced at his passing has led her through a myriad of emotions ranging from denial to depression. However, her deep faith and the often intense communication with Tom helped her to maintain a balance in her life and allowed her to heal.
Walda felt compelled to tell her intimate story of loss, grief and healing in Conversations With Tom: An Adventure in After-death Communication. Guided by the spirit of her late husband Tom, she refers to this labor of love as "one woman's spiritual journey through grief." Her message to readers is two-fold: no one ever really dies; and love is the ultimate connecting energy between this world and the next.
Walda is currently enrolled in a course of study in metaphysics and thanatology at Northern Essex Community College in Massachusetts. She has volunteered at the Lazarus House Ministries (a local shelter for the homeless), for various civic organizations and the local Hospice Association and Trauma Intervention Program. She currently leads workshops and support groups in spiritual grief recovery. She is also a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling and conducts lectures on the subjects of death, dying and the afterlife.
Walda resides in North Andover, Massachusetts with her cats, Ben and Jerry. She can be reached via e-mail at noel777@earthlink.net.

Excerpt from Chapter One The Man Who Took My Breath Away
"Mr. Woods! Mr. Woods! Come on and play some ball with us."
He finished the last of his food and joined them in a game. After nine innings of dropped balls, unsuccessful tag-out attempts (he always made it look like the kids won fair and square), and terrible strikeouts, he went back to the food table and ate some more. The music from the boom box mixed with voices and laughter carried the sounds of friendship into the evening.
I watched Tom through the crowd and noticed that while he ate and visited and laughed, something still didn't seem quite right. He seemed on edge and a couple of times I saw his hands tighten into fists as though trying to contain his temper or block out pain. This was so unlike him that my relaxed mood began to wane.
"Walda, there must be a hundred people here." he remarked. I will never forget the grin that spread across his face. He loved people and loved being with them.
We sat in silence for the next couple of minutes. I looked at my watch. It was about 7:15. Then I saw someone I wanted to talk to and walked the few feet to say hello. When I came back, less than thirty seconds later, I saw something I will never, ever forget. That sight has burned itself into my memory and is something I think about every single day.
Tom sat, slumped forward in his chair. Thick foam gathered around his mouth and his pants were suddenly stained where he had just wet himself. His eyes rolled in the back of his head. His partial denture had come loose and his mouth hung open.
I was the first to see him, and then one by one, in less time than two heartbeats, everyone else noticed. For a moment, I stood paralyzed by fear. Someone's voice spurred me to move.
"Get him on his back!" someone yelled.
Somebody else shouted, "I'll call 911."
I ran to him and screamed. "Tom! Tom! Don't you dare leave me. We have so much to do. We have so much to do!"
Someone, I don't remember whom, came up behind me and placed their hands on my shoulders to comfort me. "Take it easy, Walda. Calm down. The EMTs will be here soon."
I shook my head mournfully. "My God, he's gone. He's gone. He's had a heart attack. I know it's his heart."
