Synopsis
Alchemist and visionary, the Marķa Magdalena of this novel by Mexican author Beatriz Escalante searches for the philosopher’s stone and the secret of eternal life on a long metamorphic pilgrimage through medieval Europe. From a wandering caravan of misery that exhibits malformed human beings before the royal court to the hunt of the sorceress by superstitious villagers, this fable sketches the contradictory and often grotesque Nature within which the alchemist seeks a harmonious order and the redemption of her soul.

About the Author
Mexican writer Beatriz Escalante is the author of novels, short stories, essays, and acadmeic textbooks. Her publications include Los pegasos de la memoria, Jśrame que te casaste virgen, and El marido perfecto. She currently lives in Mexico City.
