This full-color, coffee-table book is packed with photographs by Taylor Lockwood, the world's foremost photographer of mushrooms. Chasing the Rain contains travel stories about hunting mushrooms all over the world and features fungi photos, as well as pictures of people and places. It begins with Taylor “discovering” mushrooms in Northern California and is roughly chronological as well as organized geographically. Destinations include: Tasmania, Russia, Tibet, Bali, Chile, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Burma, Thailand, the United States, and more.

Chasing the Rain is the fruit of Taylor Lockwood's travels in search of the world's most beautiful mushrooms. In 2001 he published his first book Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi, a photo-essay. Through pictures, it related the diversity of life-forms found in this very large, but still relatively little-known kingdom. Chasing the Rain tells the stories behind those pictures, shows us ones not yet published, and reveals something new. Through his anecdotes on photographing mushrooms in various climes and conditions–dodging deadly snakes in China, warding off swarms of mosquitoes in Borneo, snatching equipment out of the reach of a band of monkeys in Bali, fighting for oxygen at 14,000 ft. in Tibet, rejoicing over a day with no leeches in Tasmania, finding mushrooms in drought-stricken Europe—Lockwood chronicles the connection between people who hunt mushrooms all over the world. Developing friendships with colleagues and fellow mushroom enthusiasts around the globe has afforded Lockwood a unique perspective on people, travel, and nature—from the ground up. With fungi as the common denominator, barriers of language, race, culture, and politics are erased. Through his lens, we are taken on a gentle journey that is sometimes exciting, often times funny, and always close to the earth.
Taylor Lockwood has a mission: to melt the frost of fungophobia in America. So, he set out to find and photograph the world's most beautiful mushrooms, and to share with others the images that resulted from this global treasure hunt. It is his hope that his work will help to raise the awareness of and appreciation for the members of this quiet kingdom. After publishing Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi in 2001, in 2005 Lockwood released his first educational work The Mushroom Identification Trilogy, a three-part video on DVD. The first of its kind, this visual guide to mushroom identification educates and equips the viewer with the tools they need to get out into the woods. In addition, Lockwood has produced a full catalog of mushroom-art products which feature his photography. For more information, visit his website: www.KingdomofFungi.com. Lockwood maintains an active travel and public speaking schedule, and manages his stock photography and mushroom products business. His images have appeared in The New York Times and Mother Earth News, books by the University of California Press and Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, as well as various and numerous other newspapers, magazines, journals, mushroom field guides, nature and habitat guides, and textbooks from all over the world. His images are also featured on mushroom products produced by edible and medicinal mushroom companies. To view his gallery of images, visit www.FungiPhoto.com.
