The mediocre illustrations are uncomplicated drawings of the diverse characters printed against a solid white background with only an unobtrusive wash of color to lend depth. They simply serve the text. A note to parents explains, among other things, why the author feels it's important to begin strengthening a child's sense of self at home. "Children who can say no to their parents are best prepared to say no to others." This book gives them the tools needed to establish personal boundaries comfortably.
