Synopsis

What cruise ship guests never see and never hear about, they can read about in "If I Were Not Upon the Sea". One very 'male' Captain and one very 'female' Cruise Director of different backgrounds and very differing points of view, give a tour no brochure will ever offer. Life at sea is uncharted territory until this book.

About the Author

When she left her native California over 20 years ago, Joyce Gleeson ran away to sea and signed on to cruise ships. There she wore many name tags: variously identifying her as "Social Hostess", "On Board Lecturer", "Assistant Cruise Director" and "Cruise Director". Some years ago, she added "Captain's Wife" to her titles and "Adamidis" to her passport when she married a handsome Greek Captain. Their son is amphibious and owned a tuxedo (for formal nights on board) before he could talk. When she is land based, it is either in Mariposa, California or Ellinikon-Athens, Greece.

From the Back Cover

Comparisons prompt discussion. We, who have lived our lives at sea, have watched the mystique of a cruise disappear and the safety of a vessel take on sophistication. We have progressed from the Mayflower to Megaship. But the sea remains as landlady.

From the Inside Flap

Dedications to those who made the book Possible.
