Synopsis

It is every Christian parent's desire to see his or her child serve the Lord. Christian parents strive to raise their children to love and fear God and to cultivate personal and intimate relationships with Jesus Christ. Though parents immerse their children in the Word, children often rebel and seek to find peace in the things of this world. I Took the Long Way Home is a story about a girl who did just that. It is the story of a pastor's daughter, who was raised in a wonderful Christian home by parents who genuinely loved Jesus. Stephanie Cavelli knew everything about the Lord. She attended church three times a week, Bible studies, Christian camps and schools. She loved Christ as a child and was determined to live a life pleasing to Him. When she became a teenager, however, she began to compromise her faith. It started very small, with lying and sneaking, but eventually grew to a lifestyle of rebellion, ultimately culminating in a pregnancy at sixteen. Stephanie continued her course of rebellion into her twenties, searching for peace in status and material gain. But now, at thirty, Stephanie looks back and realizes how empty her life has become because she immersed herself in the world instead of the Word.

Review

"A story told with a rhythm of truth that makes it resonate in a believer's heart." --Roseanna White, Christian Review of Books

"As someone who gave birth to a baby boy at age 17, I found myself wrapped up in the emotions of Stephanie's story. So many fears, hopes, dreams, worries about being a young mom ring true. But my favorite part of the story is the message that true hope and peace is only found in Christ. Truth and hope is found within these pages." --Tricia Goyer, author of Life Interrupted: The Scoop on Being a Young Mom (Zondervan)
