How did the small village of Sackets Harbor produce the first woman mayor of New York State, the (almost) first woman general in the U.S. Army, the only woman Ship Keeper in the U.S. Navy, and the founder of a fraternity? The same village where chloroform, the percussion cap were invented, where Buffalo soldiers were stationed, and high school buddies bought a horse that won the Kentucky Derby? Delicious Tidbits tells their story with photos, diary excerpts, newspaper clippings, lore and legend, and pairs them with recipes and cooking tips shared at kitchen tables. Recipes like Burgundy Jerky, Chocolate Stout Cake, and Turn (of the last) Century Cheese Curd Pie accompany villager s recollections including working at a conveyor belt of fruit packing plant, to a heartfelt story of a woman World War II veteran. So, sit, make some tea, and spend some time with the villagers of Sackets Harbor.
