Carlos Huante was born in East L.A. in 1965. Besides chilaquiles and Yerba Buena (mint tea), Carlos grew up on stop-motion monster movies. Since that time he has pursued his passion for the arts by creating some of the most
original monsters and characters, for both film and animation, ever seen. Monstruo is a collection of Huante's personal, original work featuring a wide range of monster and character designs, from simple pencil sketches that magically capture the gesture of his subject, to full-color digital and traditional media paintings.

"I believe that Carlos Huante is the Michelangelo of our time. His work is a grand play of passion, his forms are taut with agonies and ecstasies, his images bite like chisel and hammer. A monstrously beautiful body of work."
Iain McCaig, concept artist Terminator 2, Star Wars Episodes I, II and III
"I have had the opportunity of working with Carlos Huante on many film projects over the years. His attention to detail is outstanding and his design sense is vivid and extraordinarily creative. Carlos is a valued colleague and I always enjoy working with him."
Rick Baker, Academy Award-winning make-up artist and effects master Star Wars, An American Werewolf in London, Gorillas in the Mist, The Nutty Professor, Men in Black, Mighty Joe Young, Planet of the Apes, The Ring
"I was lucky enough to view Carlos' drawings and paintings for this book a short time before it went to press. My feelings can simply be described as total amazement mixed with awe. This book will be a prize in my collection and a muse to my creativity. I have no doubt that you will feel the same when turning these pages of his imagination."
Jon Foster, illustrator extraordinaire Progressions, The Art of Jon Foster
