About the Author
Ed Parris was born in Chicago in 1956, but he has lived every place else. He has been a carpenter, farmer, painter, poet, professor, actor, director, playwright, producer, editor, board room officer, hallway monitor, executive, pitcher, milk boy, counselor, writer, activist, motivational speaker, keynote, reverend and bum. Ed Parris' poetry and fiction has appeared in Poetry, New York Quarterly, Colorado Review, Hawaii Review, Mangrove, Blueline, and many other journals. He received the Clark Award for creative writing from the University of Hawaii, and he has published two volumes of poetry: The Earthen Skin (2003), and The Boy in the Bushes (1996). He holds an MFA from Eastern Washington University. Between 1997 and 2007, Ed Parris worked as a welfare-to-work contractor serving rural and tribal communities. His ability to teach, inspire, motivate, challenge and coach helped hundreds of families escape the crippling grip of poverty. He has poured these same traits into the title character of The First Book of Bubba.
