In his career he has served as CEO of several closely-held companies and experienced the broad range of challenges confronting business leaders. He was a member of Young Presidents Organization where he established a sub-group of YPO members active in the healthcare sector. He is now a member of World Presidents Organization.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Carson is active in a variety of charitable organizations. He is a director of the National Patient Safety Foundation where he serves as Chairman of the Development Committee and on the Executive Committee. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Kentucky College of Arts & Sciences, his alma mater.

Carson and his wife, Mary, reside in the Washington, DC area. They have two grown children.
