A troop of Boy Scouts had arranged to have the American flag that belonged to their troop included in the flight kit of the Challenger. They had tried for the better part of a year to get this flag to fly on a space shuttle, only to be horrified to witness the explosion of the Challenger, with their flag aboard, 70 seconds after lift off. The amazing part of this story is that, nine months later, this flag was recovered, completely unscathed, from the bottom of the ocean.

The book is a recommended gift for an Eagle Court of Honor. But it makes a great gift for any of the Boy Scouts in your life.
This amazing story was featured by Paul Harvey in one of his "Rest of the story" commentaries. It is truly a stirring, patriotic, and remarkable story. Even after they’ve read it and seen the photographs, some people still don’t believe it. What can we say? It really happened. Read it for yourself. From the Author:
Threads of Honor is about a basic human need and one of God’s greatest gifts: human liberty, or moral agency, each of which provides us the right to choose to do good or to do evil.
I came of age in the sixties—an eclectic era when people were confronted with many moral choices. Some of the choices made by people my age were not sound, but the mere fact that we had choices made it a glorious age. Over the years since then, while living and working in many foreign lands, I have become increasingly aware of how blessed is the United States of America, and I have developed a deep appreciation for the marvelous freedoms our nation affords us.
Since September 11, 2001, Americans have become aware of new threats to that freedom. The essence of the terrorist attacks on America is an attempt to deny us our freedoms and ultimately to destroy our entire way of life. The security that we have always taken for granted within our borders has been challenged and we are involved in an internal struggle to ascertain how many of our individual freedoms we must curtail to assure our security. It is not an easy choice in a land founded upon the basic principle that a free people can come and go as they choose.
Threads of Honor is my expression of gratitude to those who have sacrificed to perpetuate the American dream. We owe a lot to such people. It is my hope that this book will enhance our reverence for our flag, remind us of our heritage, and help ensure in some small way the preservation of our way of life, so that we may always have the right to "Let freedom ring."
