This is an anthology on Santos wood carvings in the Puerto Rican tradition. This is one of the most important folk traditions on the Island of Puerto Rico. From its religious origins as a product of religious devotion, it became an expression of national character throughout the Twentieth Century. Lately, it has evolved into a commercial endeavor. This book explores this subject trough a number of essays by some of the more important scholars in the field. It is written in Spanish. An English version is forthcoming.

About the Author:
Born in New York, Doreen Colón Camacho was raised in Puerto Rico, where she was impressed by the Island's folk traditions. She obtained a Licenciate Degree in History of Art from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, with a dissertation on Santos woodcarvings. She has extensively studied public and private collections of Santos over the past three decades. She has been invited as curator for exhibitions in Puerto Rico by the Ponce Art Museum, the Museo de las Américas, the San Juan City Museum, and also by the National Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. At present she is the Director of the Education Department at the Puerto Rico Art Museum.
