Review:
This user-friendly book is nothing short of brilliant. Dr. Jaison's compelling clinical vignettes, taken from a wide variety of true life examples, bring you right into her office. The book is filled with the wisdom of her experience in both Focusing Oriented and Solution Oriented approaches. By the end of the book, the reader has a new level of confidence and greater skill in choosing which approach might be most useful for a particular client and even how to phrase the intervention. While many books are interesting to read once, I predict that this invaluable and carefully written hands-on guide will prove to be the kind of book you will want to reread, consult and keep close by as a companion. --Dr. Joan Klagsbrun, Clinicall Psychologist, Leslie College, Boston
The book is indispensable to family physicians for whom counseling is part of their every-day schedule. It is well written and practical, and just brimming with strong and clear examples. With the reality of present-day health care and the limited time we doctors have for counseling, I feel that it very successfully teaches us how to best manage our time and most help our patients. I will recommend this book to all my friends - physicians and therapists alike. It's a treasure I wish I could have discovered when I first started family medicine. --Dr. Miraslava Lhotsky, Author of "The Healthy Boomer" and "The Juggling Act" (McClelland and Steward}
The book is like a breath of fresh air! - readable, concrete, and immediately applicable. It's a terrifically accessible tool ... direct, simple, and humorous. It really works. I particularly appreciate how it embodies these two seeming disparate practices into a workable and powerful who that makes sense. --Karen Whalen, Ph.D., York University, Toronto, Canada
