As we advance in our yoga asana practice, sometimes physical issues show up - issues such as a tight shoulder, a sore back, or pain in the sacroliliac joints. This book was written to help you overcome these issues. Instead of developing pain, soreness, and an overall feeling of tightness, you'll feel lighter, stronger, taller, and much more at ease. Advancing Your Yoga Practice: The Art of Slowing Down consists of seven full-class sequences that will open and stabilize your shoulders, hips and spine so that you can smoothly and easily move into your classic asanas such as Downward Facing Dog, Triange, Revolved Triangle, Standing Forward Bend, Warrior 1, Warrior 2, and Camel. Anatomy is explored throughout so that you can blend your intellectual knowledge with your yoga practice.

Back in 2005, Leo Mowry attended her first Anatomy and Asana training with me. At the time she was a vinyasa style teacher to both beginning and advanced students. Her intent for attending the Anatomy and Asana training was to better understand how to keep her students safe during practice. During the training, however, some troubling questions arose Leo thought to herself - How do I keep teaching the way I do with the new knowledge that many of my students shouldn t be practicing certain common poses like Downward Facing Dog, given the lack of mobility of their shoulders? How do I properly prepare my students bodies for poses that I now recognize as too advanced for many of them...? And so began her integration of Anatomy and Asana and Therapeutic Yoga into her regular beginner and advanced classes. Last year, Leo shared with me how she has integrated the concepts into her classes. The results are brilliant. Her students love learning ways to stabilize, mobilize and strengthen. Not only have they reduced or eliminated their pain, they have also experienced strength, balance, ease, and great functional movement. So together we bring Advancing Your Yoga Practice: The Art of Slowing Down to you. Be prepared to be amazed. The feedback we ve received has been great. Here are some to share: Susi, this is your best book yet. Daena (Canmore, AB) Susi, I feel phenomenal. So light, so balanced. I ve never felt so good . Beatriz (Mexico) I feel taller, stronger and 10lbs lighter. (a participant at the Northwoods Yoga Conference, Wisconsin) This is the first workshop I have attended where I didn t leave in pain. Debbie (Seattle) This is absolutely magical, my shoulder pain in Pincha Mayurasana is non-existant (a participant at the Yoga Conference in Toronto). I love the clarity of Susi s applied Anatomy... Shiva Rea I had suffered extreme sciatica while pregnant and post-partum. My twin boys are now heavy toddlers so you can imagine the strain on my body. I had been practicing yoga for 15 years, but it wasn t until we interspersed the therapeutics with classic asanas that I moved out of pain completely. It has been an amazing experience. I ve never felt as balanced or as committed to my practice. Thank you, Leo! Anne H. (Toronto) ...I am now experiencing a more natural ease in life in my stance, in the way I walk, in my day-to-day movements, and in the way I embrace whatever is before me. Lori D. (Toronto)
