Flora's Money is an historical novel, written in a narrative style for adults of all ages. It's 1929 on the shores of Lake Michigan. Prohibition will not end until 1933 and the Depression hardships are just beginning. An ambitious country girl takes on Chicago bootleggers in a struggle involving stacks of cash, tender romance and personal conflicts in a fast moving story. Flora's Money combines escapades of fictional characters and actual historic events, without relying on extreme violence or explicit sex. Historic props: a Tri-Motor Tin Goose airplane used by bootleggers; a mobster's Duesenberg Phaeton, twice stolen; Flora's skywriting Stearman bi-plane; a lived-in former lighthouse - and the shores, dunes and zephyrs of grandiose Lake Michigan. The book is illustrated with character and place drawings, done in ink and scratchboard by the author.

Born in Indiana, Ray Rueby served in the Army Air Corps in WWII and has a B.A. from the University of Rochester. During his long career as CEO of the family firm, he wrote management articles for trade journals, including a monthly column for an international magazine. He resides in Western New York state and now devotes full time to writing and illustrating. For this novel he chose the old-style scratchboard method, as well as pen and ink, to show the reader the author's concept of what the locale of the book and the main characters look like.
