Born in 1928, Uncle Ed remembers stories of hard times and hope as he experienced life on Firesteel Road. Uncle Ed tells the tales of a town of immigrants who struggled as best they could to make a home and raise a family in Ontonagon during the worst economic downturn in our nation’s history. These are stories of a town and its culture, the lives of those who spent winters cutting lumber in the vast tracts of forest, traveled when there was twelve feet of snow in the yard after an April storm, and sold furs they’d trapped to Sears and Roebuck for a nickel apiece.
