About the Author
DAVID A.LEFFEL Born in New York City, Leffel graduated from Parson's School of Design while also attending Fordham University. Between 1959-1960 with a Merit Scholarship, he studied painting at the Art Students League of New York.Several years later, Leffel returned to the League as an instructor and in the next 25 yrs., would leave an important legacy of influence with the thousands of stu- dents he taught.His work has been exhibited in numerous important solo, group and museum shows, including the following: National Academy of Design, New York, NY Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK Artists of America Denver, CO National Academy of Western Art/Prix de West, Oklahoma City, OK Grand Central Galleries, New York, NY First American Art Exhibit, Beijing, China Some of the many prizes awarded him are three gold medals and one silver at the National Academy of Western Art as well as a gold medal from the Hudson Valley Art Association and Allied Artists of America, and various awards from the National Arts Club, National Academy of Design, American Artists Professional League, Salmagundi Club and the Pastel Society of America.David A. Leffel's work is in the permanent collection of the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, OK; Museum of the Southwest, Midland, TX; JoB. Speed Art Museum, Louisville, KY; Elizabeth To Greenshields Foundation, Montreal, Canada; New York Racing Association, New York, NY, as well as important private collections.Leffel has been featured in a number of articles in such publications as American Artist Magazine, Artists of the Rockies and the Golden West, Southwest Art, American Artists of Renown, and American Society of Portrait Artists. An instructional painting book on his teachings was written by Linda Cateura, "Oil Painting Secrets from a Master" (Watson Guptill, 1984), and con- tinues to instruct new generations of painters.
