Synopsis

Simon is not your usual deviant killer. He chooses his prey carefully, patiently watching, waiting, until he knows her every move. Simon is a coworker, a friend. She likes him, trusts him. Then one day, she simply disappears, and a horrible new world awaits her. And that was before Simon became angry. Now, he challenges the FBI to a diabolical and deadly game. To John Hightower, the FBI's best, falls the task of stopping the mayhem. Simon enlists Frank Wycheck, a talented reporter, to chronicle the play. And for each of these players, the Game becomes more personal than they ever could have imagined.

From the Publisher

Jeffrey Daumer, Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Jack the Ripper . . . why do these names conjure such vivid images? There is something about the psyche of a serial killer that the public just can’t seem to resist. In William Tepper’s novel, Master of the Game, he traces the acts of a masterful serial killer, Simon, as he conducts a nearly flawless game of cat and mouse with a high- profile detective and a burnt-out reporter.

FBI investigator John Hightower has just solved a high-profile serial killer case that has spawned a media frenzy. Frank Wychek was the star reporter on the case, christening the killer as "Jaws" and documenting it from start to finish. All the while, Simon is watching. Once the media attention has died down, Simon starts his game: 9 innings, 9 victims, no questions. He enlists the help of Wychek to chronicle the game and lures Hightower in through clever manipulation.

Once all the players are in place, Simon methodically takes out his victims using masterful disguises and clever strategy. Even his own warnings to the FBI are not enough to get him caught. But someone else is involved that could ruin his plans. . . someone that Simon didn’t count on.

About the Author

Born in St. Gallen, Switzerland, William (Bill) Tepper moved to New York as a young boy. He graduated from Long Island University with a B.S. in physics. Relocating to the West Coast, he began a career in aerospace engineering. After obtaining his M.B.A. from UCLA, Bill moved into financial analysis, consulting and management where, at 32, he was an executive with a Fortune 500 Company.

At that point, not satisfied with success, Bill chose to run his own businesses, from manufacturing to a chain of 50's-style diners, complete with roller-skating waitresses, and ultimately ending up in real estate investment.

Today, Bill is retired, enjoying his time in health and fitness-related activities, sports and reading voraciously. After finishing dozens of serial killer novels, Bill became frustrated with the formulaic nature of the genre. He set out to create a novel with a more frightening killer within a plot that was chilling, yet still airtight, that even the genre's biggest fans couldn't predict.

After diligently working on the novel for more than two years, Bill released Master of the Game, confident that the book has met his goal. As he puts it, "I have to be very careful who I let read Master of the Game. I'm single, and more than one promising relationship has been destroyed due to the book. After reading it, women absolutely refuse to see me again. No matter the explanation, they're just too terrified. I must have done something right."
