Barbara Kerr, Ph.D. is Professor of Psychology in Education at Arizona State University. Her masters degree is from the Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, both in counseling psychology. Her research has focused on the development of talent, particularly in women. She has served as the founder of the Guidance Laboratory for Gifted and Talented at the University of Nebraska; Associate Director of the Belin Blank National Center for Gifted and Talented at the University of Iowa; and currently is President of the faculty at ASU. She is author of Smart Girls; Smart Boys; Counseling Gifted and Talented, and over one hundred articles and chapters in the area of talent and creativity. Sharon Robinson Kurpius, Ph.D. is Professor of Psychology in Education at Arizona State University. She earned her masters degree at the University of Wisconsin Lacrosse and her Ph.D. at Indiana University at Bloomington. She has served as director of the counseling psychology and counselor education program at ASU. For twenty five years, she has investigated topics in the counseling of young people and women, focusing on risks and resiliency. She was co-editor of the major journal in the field of counseling, the Journal of Counseling and Development. She is an APA Fellow, much published author, with over one hundred articles, chapters and books in her field, and mentor to countless women in science. Amy Harkins, M.C. is currently serving as Counseling Psychology Intern in Native American communities in South Dakota. She will graduate in summer of 2005 with a Ph.D. from Arizona State Univesity. She has taught and served as a counselor in the NSF GEOS program, and is author of an ethnoautobiography of her experiences with the American Indian Movement program for youth and elders and a dissertation on highly functioning families.
Barbara Kerr and Sharon Kurpius have developed a model research through service program for increasing the participation of women in science. As a result of their NSF sponsored projects, similar equity programs are flourishing in guidance and counseling programs throughout the United States.
