Review

Barbara Kerr and Sharon Kurpius have developed a model research through service program for increasing the participation of women in science. As a result of their NSF sponsored projects, similar equity programs are flourishing in guidance and counseling programs throughout the United States. Presidential Citation --Nancy Felipe Russo, Ph.D.Past President, American Psychological Association

Starting from the premise that today's talented at risk girls may be tomorrow's eminent women, Kerr, Kurpius, and their colleagues raise the flag for those girls who have had the courage to take risks and surmount extraordinary barriers on the path toward their goals. --Sanford Cohn, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Gifted Education

The TARGETS and GEOS programs have taught counselor educators that through culturally sensitive counseling and mentoring, talented at risk girls and women can become more confident in themselves and their abilities, more hopeful for the future, and more likely to persist toward their academic goals --Patricia Arredondo, President, American Counseling Association
