A railroad 36 miles long, built in rugged Huron Mountain territory for three years by 1,500 men in 1890 using two large 120-ton Mastodon Locomotives, crossing the highest point of over 1,900 feet with a long 60-foot rock cut. It cost $2,200,000 and never ran a train. It was to run from Champion to Huron Bay, Michigan (near the towns of Ishpeming, Negaunee, Marquette, and L'Anse and Baraga)
