Dr. Jacobs has been the Director of Trauma and Emergency Medicine at Hartford Hospital since 1983. He serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Traumatology and Emergency Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, where he also is Professor of Surgery. He was educated at the University of West Indies Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, and he completed his surgical training at Boston University Medical Center and at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. He directed emergency medical services for the City of Boston and Boston City Hospital. Dr. Jacobs holds multiple state and national appointments. He was given the President s Award by the American Trauma Society in 2004, and that same year he was appointed Governor of the American College of Surgeons. In 2005, he won the Surgeons Award for Service to Safety from the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma for continuous commitment to patient care through prevention programs, surgical excellence, and education. At Hartford Hospital, he was instrumental in the design and implementation of the LIFE STAR program, and in developing a national model for a health care response to terrorism activities.
