Explains the effect of winds, atltitude, temperature, inclines, rifle tilt and even due to the earth's rotation; also air drag, retardation and ballistic coefficients and illustrates all with clear examples. Includes analyses of projectile stability, velocity, energy, flight time, etc. Mainly, however, it presents new simplified formulas and methods for precisly predicting flight paths out to extreme ranges. Accurate tables for .22 rim-fires, as well as for almost any center-fire rifle cartridges. are included. Finally, rigorous derivations of all formulas are included in an Appendix.

About the Author

ARTHUR J PEJSA was a pioneer aerospace physicist for three decades. At the AC Electronics Division of General Motors Corp., he headed the system design and analysis group for Thor and Titan II, the world's first successful missile guidance systems. At Honeywell Aeropsace he analyzed systems for the Apollo moon missions and personally designed the difficult re-entry guidance system for the Space Shuttles. Later he headed design of a new inertial navigation system, used for decades on most of the world's long range aircraft. Before his aesospace career, Pejsa was a professor of math and mechanics at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. He is an avid marksman and is qualified by the NRA as a Rifle Expert. During World War II, Pejsa survived thirty combat missions over Japan as a young B-29 Superfortress pilot. He won three Air Medals, a Presidential citation and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
