Synopsis

The primary objective of this work is to introduce the essential principles, concepts and most important techniques of electric circuit analysis in an easy and straightforward manner. Except a basic school knowledge of physics and calculus, no electrical or mathematical background is required to follow the contents of this book. All fundamental theorems and methods of analysis, wherever they appear for the first time, are covered in basics and explained in detail. Therefore, students with an extensive knowledge of Electricity and Magnetism can start from chapter 2 or even chapter 3. Those of good background in calculus and complex algebra may skip the first five sections of chapter 5. The tutorial problems and examples are divided into three types: solved examples given after theoretical explanation, solved problems and problems with hints or answers for developing student’s ability in circuit theory. Each chapter ends with a quiz, a problem which checks the student’s overall understanding of the chapter. The intended target of the entire material is to facilitate students’ comprehension of circuit theory.

About the Author

Khalid Saeed graduated and received his BSc degree in Electrical Engineering – Electronics and Communications in 1976 from Baghdad University, College of Engineering. He studied for his MSc and PhD in Poland in Wroclaw University of Technology in the Faculty of Electronics – Telecommunications and Acoustics (MSc in 1978 and PhD-distinguished was defended in 1981). He worked with Al-Fateh University in 1981-1986 in Tripoli and Misurata and in the Higher Institute of Electrical Engineering of Zliten in 1987-1990. From 1990 to 2002 was the Director of Centre of General Education (C.G.E.) in Lapy. 1992 – present he has been working for Bialystok Technical University with the Department of Real-Time Systems in the Faculty of Computer Science being the Head of Computer Engineering Department (1994-1999), Faculty Vice-Dean (1997-2000) and the Head of Research Team of Information Processing Systems (2000-present). His main research interests are Mathematical Models in Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, particularly their applications in Pattern Recognition Systems. Dr. Saeed is the author of more than 60 publications, among which seven are text and reference books. He is a member of IEEE and editorial boards of a number of International Journals and Conferences like IJES (UK), IASTED (Canada), ICINCO (Spain), ACS-CISIM and MGV (Poland).
