From the Author:
Though this "American superhero vs. terrorists" tale was written prior to 9/11, it is more relevant now than before. Add to this the fact that 9/11 is my birthday, and the story takes on a prophetic feel. My main character, Jack Ramsey, is a 29 year-old idealistic Colorado farmer who grew up reading and collecting comic books. After a terrifying encounter high in the Rocky Mountains, Jack finds himself outside of his body, a ghost-like, disembodied spirit. In this altered state he discovers powers both strange and frightening. Jack then stumbles upon a terrorist plot to destroy Boston, America’s Cradle of Freedom. In the spirit of Lexington and Concord, Jack ignores the odds, and answers the call, his out-of-body intangible spirit adopting a superhero image and persona. As I began writing the character Jack Ramsey in 1999, (his superhero name is "Ram") I wondered if mainstream America would accept this unconventional icon in the spirit he was written. Today, as a result of 9/11, moviegoers have embraced such films as X-men, Spiderman, Daredevil, and The Hulk, with Superman, Ironman, and The Fantastic Four in the works. With this in mind, it becomes clear that this totally unique and timely character has enormous potential. Indeed, the psi-superhero’s time has come, and I am reminded of summertime 1977, when I sat in a movie theater seat, mesmerized as the film Star Wars unfolded before me. "A Cry for a Hero" is a book/movie phenomenon waiting to happen.
From the Inside Flap:
Orbiting high above the United States is a weapon like no other, a satellite saturating an unsuspecting populace with waves of negative energy. The result is a nationwide outbreak of rampages and shootings in schools, theme parks, even little league baseball games. This brand of psychic warfare is wielded by the world's most wanted terrorist, Methuselah Al Din, a ruthless man bent on destroying America and all that it stands for. 29 year old Jack Ramsey grew up in the majestic Colorado Rocky Mountains. As a youth, Jack emulated superheroes, a tucked-in towel for a cape, T-shirt and jeans in place of tights. Those times are far behind now, his heroes long since put on the shelf. Until one fateful day, when a terrifying encounter triggers a profound metamorphosis that forever changes him, awakening a power both wonderful and shocking. Jack learns of the satellite, and is thrust into the center of terrorist conflict. Ignoring the odds, he answers the call, joining forces with a sultry but enigmatic Russian spy, and a brilliant scientist exploring the mysteries of 'Out of Body' experiences. In a desperate race against time, they search for the key to unlock Jack's amazing powers, for they have learned of Al Din's next attack, a strike at the very heart of the American spirit, an insidious plot to kill millions and lay waste to an entire city!
