Synopsis

Puzzling Evidence: A Boomer Pop History Boob Tube, Flicks, Rock & Roll and Politics Part One: 1946 - 1976 by Dr. Magic Sam Shanahan and Greg Giacona Stare into the sun and it s brilliance will make you blind. Study human folly and the darkness will burn a hole in your mind. Ever since the first crude cave drawings, humankind has tried to understand itself and its world through reflections. Are the media reflections that reach us today through television, movies and Rock & Roll our modern cave drawings merely a vast array of meaningless and unconnected phenomena? Or together do they contribute to some kind of grand mosaic that faithfully reflects back to us a vision of our true identity? In this wonderful first volume, Dr. Shanahan and Mr. Giacona painstakingly attempt to fit the mass media puzzle pieces of the Boomer Generation together with great humor and wit (a boon to Boomers, who are accustomed to having everything prepared for us) so that the Big Picture begins to emerge.

About the Author

Who are these two loose cannons? My brother Greg met Magic Sam in Vietnam when I was eleven years old. That first day Sam offered Greg a guitar lesson and a joint in exchange for a Country Joe and the Fish album and a copy of Tyrannus Nix (Ferlinghetti). As far as I can tell the two teens formed a bond based upon the world transforming potentiality of Rock & Roll, drugs and constructive anarchy. In retrospect, they may be right... or they may be crazy. Does it really matter when the result is a fun and informative read? The authors are keenly adept in the secret language of Boomers, which transcends superficial words and images into the deeper realms of archetype, metaphor and sublime irony. They are to be congratulated for having provided a necessary public service in the form of a relevant and useful Boomer s pop history and survival guide. Nicholas V. Giacona, Jr.
