I cannot express too strongly that there is no magic pill for treating this problem; the program that Dr. Smith outlines is hard work for all of the family members involved. I sincerely hope that the information in this book will be disseminated nationwide, not only for the benefit of the parents, but because some of these strategies ideally will be implemented in day cares, schools, and public restrooms. Although the child s primary aid will come from the parents, in order to alleviate the child s problems and prevent further problems from arising, we need to examine this issue in the social context in which it occurs.I congratulate Dr. Smith on his immense effort in writing this important book. I am well aware that this labor of love was completed purely for educational purposes and for the children s benefit. This work took away from his own family time, and we are forever indebted to his wife and children for allowing him the time to educate us so insightfully about the urinary and constipation problems running rampant in our society. Sincerely, Bradley P. Kropp, M.D., F.A.A.P. Associate Professor Chief of Pediatric Urology Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center
