About the Author

A California attorney and professor of counselor education, Mary Stroube combines her legal knowledge, her training as a marriage and family therapist and 17 years of teaching experience to provide a readable and informative book. Stroube did one of the first private adoptions by two gay parents. She does civil litigation and focuses her practice on legal and ethical issues for mental health professionals. She developed and teaches a class at Cal State, Sacramento, on Counseling Gays & Lesbians. She is in great demand as a speaker and continuing education provider for therapists, counselors, school districts and clergy. Mary Kearny Stroube is the great, great, great granddaughter of Stephen Watts Kearny, the first military governor of California.
