Red Rock Yellow Stone is a photographic journey through America's greatest Western parks. Edwin Firmage, two-time recipient of the Printing Industries of America Premier Print Award, combines over 80 large-format photographs with classic haiku from Japan and haiku of his own to create a unique pictorial and literary appreciation of the landscape. As the haiku poets understood, you can find beauty in the commonplace as well as the unusual. Seeing beauty in ordinary things is what haiku and photography as art forms are about.

Trained in Near Eastern Studies, I later spent ten years working as a marketing director and product manager for high tech firms in Utah and California. This experience helped me focus my attention on what it was that I truly wanted my life to be. A late bloomer when it comes to art, I was over thirty before I took up photography. It was only after I began using the 4x5 camera several years later still that I began to produce prints worthy of anyone's notice. Unlike my earlier work, photography is more than a job. It's a form of disciplined self-expression and a way of exploring my connection to the world.
Firmage's large-format photographs are inspirational by virtue of their strong composition, varied texture, vivid color and subject matter. --David Gagon, Deseret News, Oct. 16, 2005
