Howdy from down deep in the heart of Texas, y all! I m Carly Rae Patterson and no, I don t really sound like that. But when they hear you re from Texas, some people expect you to talk with a drawl. I m actually a pretty regular teenager. I love going to the movies, hanging out with friends, surfing the Internet, and playing with our two cats, Java and Beijing. I want to go to college for dentistry or dental hygiene. There is one thing about me that is unusual. I m an elite gymnast. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, I became the second American female in history to win the gold medal in the all-around gymnastics competition. I was just 16 years old. Today, I am thrilled to have accomplished something so rare. I dreamed my whole life about this. All my hard work has paid off. I m proud to be an Olympian. To reach the top took a lot of perseverance. I had to train 35-40 hours every week. It was a full-time job. I experienced pain and frustration.
