"Washington, DC, is a fun and busy place to visit," writes Casey. "It's over 200 years old and has so much to see. So put on your jacket and comfortable shoes, and let's take a walk."
The tour, in which Casey is accompanied by his brother and a few good friends, starts at the Washington Monument. After a brief written history of the landmark, as well as its namesake, the group moves on to the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. These too are described in detail, including pertinent facts about the two presidents after whom they are named.
In addition to these typical tourist attractions, Casey's walking tour reveals other important information, such as the locations of secret elevators, the cleanest restrooms, and the vendors where shoppers might be able to bargain for two-for-one souvenirs. Also included is a helpful map of the national mall and websites for each of the monuments.
Stunning photographs of the monuments and Casey and his friends appear on every page, most of which were taken by photographer Andrew Linden. Linden's credentials include a 12-year stint as the official photographer for the President's Own U.S. Marine Band. His images have been published in the Washington Post, New York Times, Time, Life, and National Archives Quarterly.
