About the Author

In addition to being an experienced flight instructor, Dr. Douglas Collins is an FAA medical examiner and former member of the U.S. Air Force. Like you, Doug always dreamed of flying. So, when he was a pre-medical student at Oberlin College in 1955, he and four other students chipped in to buy a 1947 Aeronca Champ and learned to fly. When he became a medical student, he joined the Air Force. Since then, he has flown everything from a Piper Cub to a twin-engine Seneca. He now enjoys teaching flying in Pensacola, Florida.
