Synopsis
This book is a combination of history and art. It shows the allliance of history with art and studies the meaning of portraiture in the 18th century and in particular the period between 1758 and 1768 the period when the artist Thomas McIlworth who was of Scottish descent worked. The artist painted the portraits of the leading figures of the day, the landowners, the politicians, mercantile elite of New York's Hudson Mohawk Valleys including the Van Rensselaers, Van Cortlandts Sir William Johnson.

Ona Curran is a graduate of Hofstra University and holds a Master's degree in Museum Studies from the State University of New York at Cooperstown. She is a former museum curator and historical society director. She is an art historian as well as an antiques and fine arts appraiser
